The Ivy Bee
Переглядів 13910 місяців тому
Ivy bees are relative newcomers to the UK, first spotted in 2001. They can be seen in autumn, coinciding with the flowering of Ivy, which, as their name suggests, is their main food resource. These bees are medium to large (just bigger than a honeybee), with ginger thoraxes and distinct orange/yellow striped abdomens. Common in urban and farmland settings, as well as coastal and heathlands. Thi...

We jus got these Moodeez. They are great fun and work well. The more the wind blows the more fun crazy they get,
What does “window” and “trailing hand” mean?
You are, of course right. I should not assume that people will know the terminology. The “wind window” is the amount of usable flying wind out in front of the flyer. If the flyer has his/her back to the wind then a controllable kite can fly up to about 180 degrees either side and above. The trailing hand would be the right hand if the kite is flying horizontally from right to left and vice versa. Hope this helps. 😀
wow interesting kite i really like it❤
We liked it too! Definitely a kite for the bag because of its size and wide range.
Love the 'artwork'. Poole fabulous. P20 rather, err, breezy. Good video showing its wide wind range ! 😊
@@TheKRU251 Thanks. Glad you appreciated it and took the time to comment. 😀
Interesting printed skin. Looks like an open weave with the dark/black sections whilst actually maintaining full lifting surfaces. Cool !
It's a nice kite. Needs care assembling but seems to be very strong in structure.
Reminds me of the good ol' PP 'stunt kites' of yesteryear ! 😊
Not as big or as sturdy as the Peter Powell kites produced today by his sons. Check out the Peter Powell page on our website. sites.google.com/view/kitedisplays/videos/peter-powell-page
Great video how are the birds inflated?
Like it !!!! 😊
Thanks. What about a thumbs up then? 😂😂

Early days of our wildlife photography 😊. Thanks
OMG SO CUTE🥰 WHERE CAN I GET THIS KITE?
Nice looking kite Alan!
Agreed. Not designed as a trick kite but certainly is a joy to fly. Big and beautiful. Pity about the grumpy looking old bloke holding it to give size perspective. 😂
Nice video.
Thanks Ken. We have been waiting a while for some suitable weather!
Great display Alan!
Thanks. We think that they are the best bouncing buddies we’ve seen. 😀
Love them there Penguins. Great soundtrack too. 😊
Thanks!😊
very cute❤
We agree! Thanks for the comment.
👍👍
I just bought this exact same kite. I wanted something easy to carry with me when my wife wants to go to the beach on Lake Michigan, that did not require assembly or take up a large footprint in the car.
Thanks for the video. I was researching different bees in the UK and read about this and had to see it so this is much appreciated.
I also have this video on our channel at ua-cam.com/video/CaMPSPz4UvQ/v-deo.html If you follow me on face book there are other wildlife photos and videos on my page.
how is it holding up now?
Thats amazing, great work! I would've had a tangled mess and been yelling obscenities! 😂
and what makes you think I didn't do a lot of that to get us that far? Hahaha! If you are local to southern England we are please to lend a hand (We don't charge for these things) - we will even lend you kites to learn on! If not then I have done some articles to show how get going. Contact me through our website - kitedisplays.co.uk
interesting kite
Good fun!😊
😂😂😂😂😂😂
❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was lucky enough to get one of these a few years ago. I bought it directly from Joel and got it autographed. I have to be careful here in Oklahoma. It's easy to put her up when the wind is too strong. She's a beast trying to gather back in then.
I like the steep angle at which it flies and that’s great for lifting and flying matching coloured matching tubes, swirls or streamers. I believe Joel has recently produced more of these kites in different livery.
I always wanted one of these for a long time. I heard its rated into like the 40mph zone.
Great video! Thank you!
Thank you. Glad you like it. 😊
@@CloseEncountersdoes this work for all kites or do you use this for sport kites mostly?
Sport kites mostly but any thin line if it helps - especially when tying a larks head but it will add to the weight!
Beau cerf volant 😍
We like it too!! Stronger and flies much better than the cheap Chinese versions found online.
What window?
The wind window is the area of the sky where the kite is able to fly. If you think of half of a dome existing downwind of the flier, this will give you the basic idea. The distance to the dome's wall (back of the window) from the flier is determined by the length of the kite lines. When the kite flies to the top or sides of 'The Window" it is pionting towards where the the wind is coming from, thus less sail is facing the wind, producing less pull. Ergo the nearer to the centre of the window, the stronger the pull. I hope this helps? 😀
What do you want to use it for Glenn? Prefer to discuss on email or Facebook Messenger.
Allan, how do you feel about the KAPfoil 5.0?
Nice video. Liked and subscribed.
This is the first video that actually gave a helpful advice on how to assemble. I did it that way on the first try but then got worried trying to reverse it to disassemble the top cross spars out that I would break it so glad to see someone else assembled it this way. It says ages 5 years but no 5 year old I know will get that and alot of first time flying parents are likely not to know either. Great video.
Thanks for your kind words about our video. It's good to know that our goals of being helpful to both beginners and intermediate fliers are appreciated. I think the claim about five year olds is probably that children of that age (as well as adults) are able to fly them. What we like like is that it teaches youngsters and newbies to kites that it's fine to stand still and pay out the line when launching. Although kids still like to run with the kite behind them - and that teaches them that it's better to run in to the wind. I agree entirely about the assembly aspect for persons of any level but it's an integral part of the design. This is why we felt the need to add the instructional part at the end of the video. Thanks again for your comments - much appreciated!
Got mine on order, can’t wait to fly it, thanks for sharing, you have great videos. 🪁
Nice kite - you will enjoy. Thank you for your appreciation of our videos.

Very good Octopus.Beautiful Video
I have this kite but it spins
It’s a nice kite. It shouldn’t do that. The reason will most likely be the bridle has slipped out of position or the tow point is too far forward or back. You will need to experiment a little before returning it to where you bought it.
Where can I buy that kite? So awesome.
Thanks for commenting and we are glad you like the kite. I don't mean to be facetious Cynthia but this kite is for serious and experienced flyers only! You'll need a lifter kite, 1000lb breaking strain line and a really good anchor. An experienced flyer would also know that you would be looking at four figures to do all that including the kite.
Where can I buy that kite? So awesome.
Allan, would you recommend kite to lift a pair of Kaixuan witches or a 20 foot hammerhead inflatable? Tks. Glenn
Everyone seems to be using Manta Rays as lifters these days. I wouldn’t use the KAP for lifting those. Out of our collection, I would probably use either a Trilobite or a power sled. If you have a 3 metre HQ power sled then try that - they are a lot more powerful than given credit for and fairly stable too. Lastly, but not lesser, then a PL pilot will certainly do the job!
@@CloseEncounters Thanks for the insight. Although I'd not rule out the Manta, it is certainly a more involved process to get it in the air. Too, I know the Trilobites are a strong pulling kite and thank you for the suggestion. My largest sled is a 36 and it is a workhorse kite. Still undecided, I am still going to chase this KAP idea, if for nothing else, the fun of the hunt. Stay well and give the king my regards :)
Very nice video 👍
Thank you Vikram. Kind of you to say. Much appreciated. 😀
The design team at HQ came up with a terrible design when they came up with the notion of using a “curved” standoff attachment for the lower spreader. They have used this design feature on other stunt kites and the basic problem is that the “curved” standoff/whisker is under so much tension that the slightest bump upon landing will typically result in the standoff/whisker being catapulted into near earth orbit…once catapulted this standoff/whisker is almost impossible to find in any type of grassy groundcover. In addition, due to “supply chain” issues HQ often cannot supply you with replacements and instead send a fiberglass rod substitute which cannot handle the inherent tension needed and as a consequence will typically splinter after just a few flights All in All…a truly bad design feature…I would have thought that the HQ engineering team (based in Germany) would have discovered this inherent flaw of design but apparently the notion of actually field testing new design features has gone by the wayside. Do Not Buy…you will be disappointed….
Thanks for your comments Robert. I will do some crash testing and let you know. I have forwarded your comments to the design team at HQ and will report back on their reaction.
Thank you for this feedback Robert! We have been producing the Delta Hawk almost unchanged for over 25 years. However, there are still small improvements in detail. So the newer models have a pocket for the standoff with security, so that the standoff can actually no longer be lost. This can also be seen in the opening image in the video. Regarding the supply of spare parts, I can only note that we usually send them within 24 hours. It may be that there are delays if the order for a spare part is received on Friday afternoon or at the weekend. We certainly cannot be held responsible for delays in delivery. Our material specifications for the standoff say wrapped fiberglass with a diameter of 2.1 mm. Please let us know if this is not the case for your Delta Hawk. We will gladly send you a replacement free of charge. Alexander Hesse Team Products and Service Invento
Mesmerizing craftsmanship. What is the length of the tail and is it flat or tubular? Thanks
Thank you for your comments. Here is a reply I gave to others on this channel further down ...You can buy rip stop nylon from good kite shops or chandlers/sailmakers. It is usually 1½ metres wide. you then decide how long you want each section. We prefer ribbon (flat) tails as opposed to tubes because they are lighter. We use pinking shears to cut each strip - they won't last as long as hemming each tail before fraying but much longer than straight cutting and we have so many that we circulate ..... The next question is length? If you are only using 100ft (30metre) lines then 70 ft max - especially more so if you are not using a full size, team kite. Be aware that the tails come out a long way down the field behind the kites and you should be wary of other people and careful not to overfly roads. NEVER fly upwind of electrical power lines. We aim to have our tails about 8cm wide to give good visibility and keep down the weight. Do not connect tails to the bottom of the kite because the drag will alter how the kite flies. Instead, make a loop around where the spine and bottom spreaders cross at the T piece, hang it out the back and connect you tail there. Sorry but we Don’t sell kites or accessories. Please check out your local kite retailer.
You didn't answer my question about who the store owner is. He should have stock of proper flying lines. 82 feet is a little short, I would suggest 100 ft (30metres) will make life easier. If you do make a successful join in a broken line it is far better not to shorten the goos line but to add the missing length to the broken line. I already advised on checking to make sure both lines are the same length - here's the page on our website that tells you how to do it. sites.google.com/view/kitedisplays/tutorials/set-up-your-lines?authuser=0 The video tell shows you how to do it is on the link that comes with the video above ua-cam.com/video/M40Ib8Lxy9g/v-deo.html This is all part of the experience of kite flying and one day you'll find yourself advising someone else on how to get the best from their kite. Remember - It it were easy and didn't present a challenge then it wouldn't be fun! Bravo for your persistence. I don't know what part of the world you live in but I would really love to stand next to you and help.
I have attempted to launch my kite hundreds of times in light and gusty winds. The kite rises only about 10 feet and immediately takes a nose dive into the ground. I'm about to give up.
I am sorry to hear that Russ. If you lived near me I could definitely fix that problem to give you hours of fun with kites. There could be a problem with the kite but one of the most common problems is that the flying lines are not the same length. Lines on hoops are not a good idea. If you already have straps, stake them to the ground, let them all the way out and make sure they are of equal length. For easy adjustment please go to the ”Tips” section of our website (www.kitedisplays.co.uk) or find the video on this channel.
@@CloseEncounters Thank you so much for your suggestions. I double checked the lines to make sure they are the same length and not tangled up and found no issues. My kite is an Alpha Plus with Dyneema lines. I'll keep trying and will let you know if/when I have any success. Thanks again.
@@KenSerpico5450 Don't try to fly with short lines. It is mush easier to fly with lines of about 30 metres (100ft) - 25 metres minimum. 😀 The next most important thing is to keep your hands close together - do NOT fly with outstretched arms - even I find that difficult to keep a kite in the air. Once the kite is airborne you only need very small movements. Aim to keep the kite as high as possible. Tellme, what type of kite is it you have?
@@CloseEncounters I have great news. I called the kite store owner where I bought my kite, which is an Alpha Plus that came with a Dyneema 150 lbs/82 ft line. I told the store owner the problems l was having launching the kite. He said, "let's see what's happening and I'll give you a free lesson". He immediately noticed one of the bridles was off center and fixed it. After one hour of stern training, he had me performing circles and low ground passes. Like you said, he said, "don't over correct, you're lowering your hands way too low and raising over hands over your shoulders. It only takes minor adjustments in front of you, near the neutral position". Thanks for your follow-up.
